North Washington and Cameron | failure to yield to pedestrians |
I was crossing Cameron heading south by the post office and when I was about a third of the way into Cameron St with 17 seconds still on the crossing signal a car driving North made a left turn and if I didn’t stop walking it would have hit me. I could touch the car. |

gallows road – crossing all lanes of 495 and entrance ramp | failure to yield to pedestrians |
there are 3 cross walks on the north side of gallows road – heading east to west the first one is a crosswalk with a light that cross drivers entering the 495 service drive on-ramp – car (both turning left and right) seldom yield to pedestrians even if the walk light is on as they are accelerating against each other to enter the ramp. 2nd intersection crosses the express lanes – cars usually yield since the light is closely timed, but cars traveling east to west and turning right onto the express lanes have a visibility issue and may not see pedestrians if they are turning right on red. Third cross walk crosses the entrance ramp to 495 south and has no light and limited visibility of the cross walk placement and oncoming traffic. |

Gallows Road and Holmes Run Drive | poor visibility |
traffic turning left from Gallows (heading east) on Holmes Run Drive – two lanes of traffic, if the left lane stops it is difficult to see oncoming traffic in the right lane. |

3420 Gallows Road, Falls Church VA 22042 | speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians |
The crosswalk for pedestrians to cross Gallows Road in front of Woodburn Elementary School is very dangerous because drivers do not stop or even slow down as they exit 495. On 6/22, I was stopped for the flashing crosswalk as a family tried to cross Gallows to go to the Holmes Run Acres pool and they were stuck in the middle of the road because the other lanes of traffic did not yield. |
June 22, 2021 |
Gibbon and Washington | failure to yield to pedestrians |
I was almost hit here and at the crosswalk just further down twice today by drivers. I only moved to cross during pedestrian walk signs and both times was almost hit and then yelled at by the driver. I did not interact. |

Duke St & S. Peyton St. | red light running |
Black SUV with MD plates blew through red light as I was crossing Duke St. The SUV was travelling west on Duke Street and turned right onto Daingerfield Rd. |
January 22, 2021 |
Alexandria INOVA Hospital crosswalk, N Howard St, 22304 | failure to yield to pedestrians |
The pedestrians on the parking lot side had not activated the crosswalk, yet they were standing at the crosswalk waiting to cross so I stopped to allow them an opportunity to cross. I was traveling west, had just cleared the Seminary Rd intersection as the lead car waiting for the green light. The young male driver behind me was not paying attention and he rear ended my vehicle. It was a low speed and there was no physical damage to my car (not known at the time). I exited my vehicle, said we needed to exchange information as he had rear ended me. The young male driver was very agitated, angry, argumentative. He kept saying there was no damage, I was at fault for stopping, and he backed up his vehicle, and passed my stopped vehicle on the right to leave the scene. I emailed the info, with a photo of the other car’s license tag to my liaison APD officer, asked if I needed to report the incident formally, and the APD officer never responded. Within a week I stopped by the APD HQ to file the report in person and had to wait for an office to come in off of patrol to take the report. After a 45 minute wait, I had another appointment so I had to leave without seeing an officer. It’s insane for someone to have to wait for an officer to come in off of their rounds to file a report. Why can’t an administrative employee on site take a report??? The online report was not conducive to a report, I think there was a madatory field that wanted a property damage report? I don’t recall right now why the online report wasn’t user friendly. |

Russell and Windsor | Aggressive behavior by cyclist |
I had a car full of children and witnessed a cyclist run through a very busy intersection. When someone honked at him he turned to all cars and gave an inappropriate gesture and yelled obscenities |
February 5, 2020 |
E Glebe Rd and Clifford Ave | failure to yield to pedestrians |
I was walking west with my toddler in a stroller on the south side of E Glebe Rd. The driver was stopped a couple of feet into the crosswalk waiting to turn right (eastbound) from Clifford onto E Glebe. I could see that he would have to wait a while for the traffic on E Glebe to clear, and he had turned his head in my direction, so I started to cross. As I stepped in front of the car with the stroller, the driver let his foot off the brake to inch forward some more – he quickly stopped again and put his hand up apologetically while I finished crossing. |

Wythe St at N Payne St | failure to yield to pedestrians |
A pedestrian was crossing Wythe St in the eastern crosswalk when a black Mercedes, driving at or above the posted 25mph speed limit, failed to yield to the pedestrian and instead at the very last possible second swerved around the man. I literally thought my neighbor and I were going to watch a man get killed. The stretch of Wythe between N Fayette and N West is a reckless speedway. |

2592 Huntington Avenue, Alexandria, VA | speeding, Cell phone use |
I think we need some way to slow down traffic in front of Huntington Club Condominiums. There’s a pretty steady stream of cars coming off the off-ramp from Telegraph Road south (or I-495, both drop out on Huntington Avenue) who speed past our apartments and there’s a long green light at the intersection with the Huntington Metro but nothing in between. It’s dangerous, as is biking from our apartments here to Route 1 to get on the bike paths leading to Mt. Vernon Trail. One such incident occurred Friday when I driver coming off the off-ramp from Telegraph Road south (or I-495) was speeding and almost hit me as I was biking back to my apartment. I looked through the window as they passed and they were messing with their cell phone and it was a Lyft and Uber driver. It’s too frequent and we need a bike lane from Telegraph Road to Route 1. The solution could even be a greenway along the ditch abutting I-495 behind the new apartments, but separated and protected from the construction and any possible flooding. |

Sanford Street | speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians |
Drivers including large trucks constantly use Sanford Street as a cut through, driving recklessly along this tight neighborhood street. |

January 26, 2020 |
Prince and Daingerfield | failure to yield to pedestrians |
East bound driver on Prince turned left on Daingerfield without signaling while I was in the crosswalk and had the walk sign. This intersection could use more walk time and LPI. |
January 24, 2020 |
West and Oronoco | failure to yield to pedestrians, stop sign running |
Driver saw me in the cross walk (I was just about halfway across). Rather than coming to a full stop while I finished crossing the street, he rolled through the stop sign and then continued straight through the intersection so that I had to stop in the crosswalk to avoid being hit. |
January 21, 2020 |
Wyeth and Fayette | failure to yield to pedestrians |
Driver ran stop sign. Approximately 30 mph. Missed me by inches. |

South Side of Henry and King Streets, 1028 King Street | not enough time to cross, speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians, red light running |
This happens nearly every time I walk home from work – multiple (up to 4!) cars running the red turn light from westbound King Street to Henry Street southbound. I have nearly been hit multiple times. Pedestrians have to wait for these cars to run the red light/walk light, and its a short enough time to walk westbound King sidewalk as it is. There are also cars turning from eastbound King Street to add to the mix. This is the south side of the intersection, walking from Lori’s Table (1028 King Street) to Conte’s Bike Shop (1100 King). its exceptionally dangerous because the walk light is on and the cars running the red light are BEHIND those waiting by Lori’s Table. I wish police could be stationed nearby to ticket these cars, its just a matter of time before someone is killed! My suggestions are: ticket those running the red light, make the walk light longer by 10 seconds, make it illegal to enter the crosswalk on these heavily pedestrianized streets with pedestrians present. I have about a 2 mile walk from Canal Center Plaza to my home in Carlyle. During the winter dark months I walk on King Street as much as possible since the other streets are less heavily pedestrianized and the dangerous drivers are WORSE. This intersection is far from the only danger along king street (all of them could use more time to cross for pedestrians) but this one is by FAR the worst with red light running. |
January 16, 2020 |
Duke St and Daingerfield road | not enough time to cross, failure to yield to pedestrians |
I cross the Duke St daily, with a double stroller, to get from my kids preschool to my home in old town village. The intersection is extremely dangerous for pedestrians. Cars constantly turn right (into the crosswalk) quickly without looking and traffic is always backed up and almost impossible to navigate the crosswalk (I have to weave my double stroller around several cars in the dark). I was almost hit today which was terrifying! The intersection needs work to be made pedestrian friendly…especially with several preschools and daycares right nearby. |
January 6, 2020 |
Duke St and S George Washington St | speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians |
Someone turning left on to George Washington Parkway from Duke thought if they drove fast enough they would be able to beat the cars headed straight when the light turned green. He hit me, I fell to the ground. It was pretty bad. People need to better understand how to yeild when turning left. |

Richmond Highway and e Reed ave | failure to yield to pedestrians | December 20, 2019 | |
S. Fayette and Prince | red light running |
Date is approximate, I just learned of this site (fantastic!). A female was almost mid-crosswalk and a car coming down Prince didn’t even hesitate and ran a fully red light, nearly missing her. |
October 28, 2019 |
South Washington Street and Green Street | failure to yield to pedestrians, red light running |
I was jogging north on the west wide of Washington Street. The light was green for traffic driving on Washington Street and red for traffic on Green Street. I had the crosswalk signal in my favor. As I approached the intersection two cars rolled through the crosswalk, only looked left to see if it was clear to make a “right on red”, and then sped through the red light, turning right onto Washington Street. Neither vehicle stopped. Neither vehicle even bothered to check for a pedestrian approaching from the right. I doubt either driver even saw me. I had to stop abruptly to avoid being hit. |
November 24, 2019 |
Commonwealth Ave/Oak St | long wait to cross, poor visibility , failure to yield to pedestrians |
This is not the only near miss I have experienced at this intersection- merely the most recent. Myself and another mother picked their child up from after school clubs at nearby Maury Elementary School and attempted to cross the street in the crosswalk. Unfortunately, several vehicles sped past us (2 adults and 2 children) – and we were almost hit by another before it stopped and the driver waved in apology. Vehicles are able to park too closely to this intersection, making visibility difficult for drivers and pedestrians alike. Unless the school crossing guard is at this intersection many children are prohibited to walk home alone as this intersection is a problem due to vehicles speeding or just not yielding the right of way. This intersection is very dark during the evening and night, making crossing all the more hazardous. At least a dozen Call.Click.Connect requests have been submitted to the city regarding this intersection, but they have been left open for 2 months without a response. Requests prior to these have been closed due to lack of data indicating this was a trouble spot. |
November 21, 2019 |
225 N Washington Street Alexandria | failure to yield to pedestrians |
I waited for the pedestrian light to turn green and then started walking. A truck was turning right and stopped 2 feet from me once the driver saw me. |
November 22, 2019 |
130 E. Rosemont Avenue | Pedestrians not obeying walk signals |
Pedestrians are constantly walking into traffic at King and Patrick, and at King and Henry. They are not obeying the walk sign and walking into traffic when cars have a green arrow for a left turn. This is a constant problem. |
November 1, 2019 |
Slater’s and Washington | not enough time to cross, long wait to cross, speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians, red light running |
This being the entrance/exit to Old town, it is a very stretgic location to advise drivers they are entering a pedestrian priority zone!! |
November 9, 2019 |
crossing 1329 Wythe St at N West St | failure to yield to pedestrians |
A Prius almost hit me and my daughter (who was in a stroller) while turning from N West St onto Wythe St. I was in the middle of the crosswalk when he turned without even looking. If I hadn’t screamed he wouldn’t have even looked over and seen us. |
November 2, 2019 |
Wythe St and N Payne St | speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians |
This is an uncontrolled intersection that has near-misses on an almost constant basis. The city only recently put hash marks in the crosswalk but that did nothing to slow the speeding vehicles that race up from N West St to the stop sign at N Fayette St nor down from N Fayette St to make the light a N West St. Repeated requests for additional signage – including in-road signage, stop signs, etc. – have been ignored or ruled out as being a waste of time. |
November 7, 2019 |
Braddock metro crossing | speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians, The ignore the flashing yellow light |
They are constantly speeding through like its not a cross walk or flashing yellow lights kids are walking to and from school and some drivers won’t even stop if they see kids crossing |
November 11, 2019 |
1207 wythe st | not enough time to cross, speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians, stop sign running |
Drivers are in such a hurry in the evening after work that they are not follwing the 4 way rule and the drivers are not paying attention when people are in the cross walk. |
November 18, 2019 |
E Glebe and Richmond HWY | long wait to cross |
The button to trigger the walk signal at E Glebe and Richmond HWY at the crosswalk going West to East does not work. Multiple full cycles of the lights are completed before you just have to find a good time to get to the median (metroway bus lane). Call click connect has resulted in nothing being done. |
November 7, 2019 |
Madison St and Fayette St | poor visibility , failure to yield to pedestrians |
My husband was crossing south to north in the eastern crosswalk across Madison when a car driving southbound on Fayette turned left and almost ran them over. The driver stopped in time but said something to the effect of “you’re not wearing anything”, presumably meaning reflective or lighted clothing. My husband yelled at the driver to stop him, which worked, and also after the fact, but was very shocked, at the incident itself but also at the gall of the driver to think the fact that he wasn’t wearing reflective gear put the pedestrian carrying a baby in a crosswalk at fault rather than the driver. The intersection is poorly lit, and better light might improve things. Also, anything to keep cars from speeding through in a hurry would also help. (Raise the entire intersection?) this is a very very pedestrian heavy neighborhood and dozens of parents pick up and drop off kids at daycare on foot. |
November 6, 2019 |
Taney and Pegram St | speeding, stop sign running |
I have had multiple near misses at the Pegram and Taney Ave intersection. Drivers ignore the stop sign, and there is a lack of visible markings. Repeated requests have been made by many neighbors to the city, but we’re told “it’s not unsafe”. I don’t know how an intersection where a stop sign is ignored, and where children MUST cross to get to school, is considered safe, but you know, pretty typical for Alexandria safety enforcement on the West End. |
October 19, 2019 |
Kenmore and Seminary Road | jaywalking |
The bus stop is mid-block, and it seems to be a regular habit for folks to cross Seminary Road here just before the 395 overpass. Very dangerous as cars are entering Seminary Rd. from 395 exit |
October 23, 2019 |
Madison and Alfred—sidewalk | failure to yield to pedestrians, scooter operator/parking hazard |
Scooter rider on sidewalk came up from behind me heading East and almost hit me! This after the BPAC meeting discussing the issue of scooters on sidewalks! |
October 22, 2019 |
South Jordan and Duke Street | not enough time to cross, slow walking elderly gentlemen crossing in advance of the cross signal to make it across all of Duke Street – he was a very slow walker & apparently has learned not enough time for him to cross. He was almost hit by oncoming Duke Street traffic. |
Longer cross time for elderly or disabled or moms with children – busy crosswalk from FoxChase to Aldies and bus stop with buses traveling East. |
July 9, 2019 |
St Stephens Rd and Seminary Rd | speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians, red light running |
Crosswalk at this stoplight intersection. A car came down Seminary (Headed in the 395 direction) at a high speed. When the car in front of them stopped at the red light it zoomed around the car to the other lane to run the red light. In swerving it looked as if it might hit or jump the curb but luckily for me it did not. Was close enough to get its breeze though. Luckily no one coming out of St Stephens from SSSA taking a left as they would have been hit. Also this intersection has a school bus stop. |

E Glebe and commonwealth ave | failure to yield to pedestrians |
Driver making right hand turn failed to yield to 4 pedestrians in the crosswalk, including an infant |
October 17, 2019 |
500 Madison St | failure to yield to pedestrians, stop sign running |
Car traveling east on Madison making a right to go south on North Pitt drove right in front of me and my partner at high speed while we were in the crosswalk. Wow! It was close! |
September 19, 2019 |
Randolph and Mount Vernon Ave | speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians |
Kids and parents are always waiting at the crosswalks to cross the road in the mornings to get to school, and in the afternoons after school – while drivers go speeding past without regard for the school speed limit and awaiting pedestrians. Our own Ms. Essie has gotten her foot run over by a driver while doing her job, stopping traffic to allow kids to cross. Especially in a school zone – this is not only an inconvenience to pedestrians, but a danger to their safety. We like the wider sidewalk berth given to WMATA bus stops, but don’t know why there wasn’t one done for the stop at Randolph and Mount Vernon Ave – these pinch points have been helping to raise awareness and visibility of pedestrians trying to cross this busy street that many have been using as a thoroughfare to get around the slowed-down Route1 traffic that seems to jam up right in front of Potomac Yard every morning and afternoon. |
June 5, 2019 |
Monroe and Leslie | speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians |
Too many incidents to be able to pinpoint just one. We were pedestrians waiting at the crosswalk across from Aldi, adjacent to YMCA. Another pedestrian was also crossing, across the street from us. The driver was driving at speed westbound on Monroe, and as we all began to cross the crosswalk, he slammed on his brakes and told his child in the back seat that “pedestrians just suddenly appeared out of nowhere.” |

1705 Crestwood drive | Drivers swerving into bike lane |
Have had several close calls over the last three years on Monroe st. between commonwealth and swings coffee. Drivers like to swerve into the bike lanes to avoid the speed bumps in the vehicular lane. I now actively avoid the bike lanes on monroe on my daily bike commute because of this. |
August 8, 2017 |
E. Braddock Rd & Potomac Yard Trail | failure to yield to pedestrians, failure to yield to crosswalk traffic |
White work van with MD plates blew through crosswalk as I was approaching the eastbound lane of travel from the crosswalk. |
August 28, 2019 |
Queen and N. Pitt Street | failure to yield to pedestrians |
A driver did not yield to me while I was in the crosswalk as a pedestrian at N. Pitt and Queen Street. The driver came very close to striking me at about 20 mph as he entered the crosswalk while I was still in it. I jumped out of the way of the vehicle and missed being hit by an inch. The driver waved at me but made no effort to stop the vehicle or explain why he had nearly hit me, It was about 4:30 pm and conditions were clear. |
August 25, 2019 |
Mt. Vernon Avenue and Reed Street Del Ray | street design |
This is a dangerous intersection. Trucks and buses southbound on Mt. Vernon Avenue turn left at Reed. Because they have to wait for oncoming traffic to pass, cars try to make a left turn by trying to swerve around these large vehicles. This puts pedestrian who are in the crosswalk in danger because drivers swerving around buses cannot see pedestrians. This is a street design matter. Update: Reed is currently being repaved, but it’s unclear whether repaving and restriping will resolve the issue. |
August 20, 2019 |
Potomac Ave and E Reed Ave | speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians |

Curbside parked driver abruptly opened door into bike lane, causing me to swerve into traffic to avoid collision. |
August 13, 2019 |
Braddock Road – crossing between 7/11 and Potomac Yard trail | failure to yield to pedestrians |
One car let me halfway across, then four cars sped in front of me without stopping, even though I was standing in the crosswalk in the middle of the road. This is a terrible crossing, with lots of bikes and pedestrians, and the drivers just won’t stop. We have asked the police and the city for some enforcement and even showed them video footage of traffic failing to yield but nothing is done. The crosswalk just to the east of this one is as bad. |
August 9, 2019 |
Hunting Creek Drive and Massey Lane | stop sign running |
As she approached the stop sign at a high rate of speed on Hunting Creek Drive, driver was looking left down Massey Lane to see if she could continue on. If I had not yelled at her to slow down, she most likely would not have seen me. This is the same orange Mini Cooper that nearly hit me on July 31, 2019 at the intersection of Richmond Highway and Slater’s Lane. |
August 11, 2019 |
Jamieson Ave & Dulany St. | Failure to yield to cyclist in bike lane |
I was taking my toddler to daycare with me on my bike and her in a bike trailer, traveling eastbound on Jamieson Ave in the bike lane. Cars had backed up on Jamieson, waiting behind a car trying to turn left onto Dulany. The bike lane was clear to the intersection. As I approached the intersection, a taxi, abruptly and without signaling, began to pull into the bike lane beside me in an apparent attempt to drive around the traffic jam. I yelled at the driver and he stopped his maneuver before colliding with me. I did not have time to stop or yield. |
August 8, 2019 |
425 East Monroe Avenue/YMCA, Simson Stadium Park, Aldi Crosswalk | speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians, Swerved around speed bump |
I was crossing the street from Aldi to Simpson Stadium Park, returning from an errand on a clear day at approximately 2:20 PM. There was a black Nissan compact SUV approximately a block away (by Swings Coffee/the intersection of Monroe and Leslie) when I entered the crosswalk. I pushed the flasher and indicated my presence. The driver (headed toward Mount Vernon Avenue) swerved to avoid the speed hump. I see drivers do this frequently in order to exceed the posted speed at this area. I waved, but he did not apply his breaks. He was probably going 30 MPH. Thankfully, I had entered the intersection with enough time to cross regardless of his speed, but I had to jog to feel safe. Had I been one of the children, senior citizens, or animals on leash who frequent this intersection, had I been paying less attention, or entered the crosswalk with less time for him to yield, I might not have been as safe. Unfortunately, I did not get his license plate. |
August 6, 2019 |
St. Asaph and Wolfe Streets | failure to yield to pedestrians |
Pedestrian southbound on St Asaph crossing Wolfe near Alexandria Little Theater. SUV rolled through stop sign and came with inches of striking pedestrian who was 1/3 into crosswalk. Driver moving south on St Asaph was looking for parking place, rolled through the stop sign at St. Asaph and Wolfe. Witness on southwest corner and me (witness on northeast corner were shouting at driver who slammed on brakes. Scared the person in crosswalk who started swearing at driver. I’m reporting for the near miss pedestrian |
July 30, 2019 |
Slater’s Lane and Richmond Highway | speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians |
Cars turning right onto Slater’s Lane from Richmond Highway are easily exceeding 25 mph. Even when they see pedestrian i crosswalk, they accelerate. On Saturday (07/27) a bright blue BMW made eye contact with me and proceeded to accelerate into the intersection causing me to move back quickly. Cars turning left from Richmond Highway often do not see pets traveling south through the crosswalk. I have repeated raised issues about this intersection, but nothing happens. Placing a flashing signal indicating that cars must yield to pedestrian? Something needs to happen soon. Again on July 31 O was nearly hit by a car on my evening run in this intersection. Orange car with VA plate VA URZ6841 made a left turn onto Slater’s land while I was crossing the intersections. |

Jamieson Ave and Dangerfield Rd | failure to yield to pedestrians, Aggressive driver behavior |
Woman traveling eastbound on Jamieson in Tesla stops to allow my daughter and I to cross. Apparently my four year old was moving too slowly, because she then lays on the horn and speeds off dangerously close behind us. |

N Henry St and Pendleton St | red light running |
I was crossing N. Henry St (E> W) at Pendleton. I had a walk sign, which had been illuminated for at least 5-10 seconds. A driver heading south on N Henry drove at full speed through the red light at Pendleton, narrowly missing me and smashing into a car that had just made a legal right turn from Pendleton onto N Henry. |

Intersection of GW Parkway and Duke Street | speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians |
I was walking to work in the morning. Trying to cross GW Parkway at Duke Street. Cars on Duke Street had green light and I was walking in crosswalk. Car going fast going east on Duke Street was trying to make the green light and turn left on to GW Parkway. Driver did not yield to me in the crosswalk and kept coming towards me. I put my hand out in front of me and car hit my hand and knocked me to the pavement. This made me loose my handbag and briefcase. I was helped up by a driver who got out of her car on the Parkway. I did not think I was hurt so did not call police and went to work. But when I arrived at work, I broke down, called the police who took me to Alexandria Hospital Emergency Room. I had large bruise on my right side where I hit pavement but no other injuries. I visited San Francisco some years ago and remember that there were 4-way stops on many intersections so pedestrians could cross streets without danger of cars making turns. We need to have these 4-way stops in many Old Town intersections or, at a minimum, stop right turns on red light which is dangerous to pedestrians. |

Payne St northbound and Duke | Failure to yield to cyclist |
I was nearly right hooked but a red SUV turning right on a green light onto Duke from Payne. I had pressed the cross button and started to cross with the signal when the driver started turning into the crosswalk. I was on the sidewalk after pressing the button. We both started from a stop at the prior red light. A leading pedestrian interval scheme probably would have prevented this incident. |

Slater’s Lane and Richmond Highway | Pedestrian |
I have had multiple near misses at this intersection with the most recent being on July 31, 2019 at 9:00 pm. Cars traveling south on Richmond Highway and turning left onto slaters are generally traveling at high speeds, rushing to beat oncoming cars and not aware of pedestrians. Cars traveling north on Richmond Highway are also not looking for pedestrians as they approach an easy right turn onto Slater’s Lane. I have repeatedly contacted Alexandria TES through Call.Click.Connect and through email exchanges. |

Radford Street & Osage Street | Poor visibility, Speeding, Stop sign running |
Drivers making a right hand turn from N. Quaker onto Osage Street have the right of way. Drivers on Radford Street have a stop sign, but either blow through the stop sign or begin to proceed straight onto Radford only to be nearly hit by drivers with the right of way. Churchgoers for Blessed Sacrament and Lindsay Lexus customers frequent this intersection- highly trafficked! Radford Street needs to be eliminated completely between West Braddock Road and Osage Street. |

Duke Street and Arell Ct/Wheeler Avenue | Red light running |
I drive through and walk near this intersection daily as it is the only exit/entry point to my neighborhood. I see vehicles speeding and running through the traffic light going both east bound and westbound on Duke Street at this intersection daily. There needs to be red light cameras installed at this intersection immediately. My vehicle was totaled last month when someone ran the red light and hit my car at this intersection! |

King and Peyton | Pedestrian, Cyclist |
Was biking with my husband and daughter on a regular route we normally take when I was honked at and nearly hit by a black SUV with Florida plates. The SUV was traveling down Peyton toward King Street, making the right on King Street where s/he also failed to yield to a pedestrian crossing with the right of way (walking signal was lit). Ped said “wow, thanks a lot.” |

South side sidewalk King St near Peyton | Pedestrian |
Scooter (again) going east on south side sidewalk of King St almost ran into me. I talked to the guy but he did not know he was not supposed to be on sidewalk. Scooter had a graphic indicating no sidewalk riding. So he asked where he’s supposed to ride and I said the street. And he said that looks dangerous…go figure… |

south side sidewalk of King St near Peyton St | Pedestrian |
This form should be updated to include scooter “near miss” incidents on sidewalks. I was walking east on the southside sidewalk on King Street (by the Bank bookstore) when I heard a noise behind me and when I turned around someone on a scooter was almost on top of me. When I jumped out of the way, the person continued east on the sidewalk even after I screamed at them that they were not supposed to be on the sidewalk. This is at least the third close call I’ve had with scooters on sidewalks in Old Town. |

Princess and N Washington | Pedestrian, Driver |
I was crossing Princess Street (at N. Washington) to go to Wells Fargo with the proper walking signal when a Mercedes drove extra fast in order to beat oncoming traffic to turn onto Princess to also go to the Bank. I had the opportunity to discuss the near miss and certain death to me if I hadn’t jumped back onto the sidewalk and he was shaken and sorry. However, he’d be sorry and I’d be dead. This situation where walkers have the signal to proceed (and the right of way) means nothing if cars ALSO have the green light to turn into us. Can that be changed?! Is there a citizen/police group working together to make walking safer? |

Walking with my 2 sons and following the signals. One car turning left onto Route 1 claims not to have seen us, and actually ran into us. He came to a stop wedged against my sons stroller. Jamieson & Mill Rd./Andrews Ln. | Not enough time to cross, Long wait to cross, Poor visibility, Speeding, Failure to yield to pedestrians |
I use this intersection daily as a pedestrian and cyclist. This intersection is hostile to pedestrians because the distance to cross any of the streets is too far. The curbs are designed to facilitate car traffic turning through the intersection which encourages cars to cut through the intersection when turning, presenting a hazard to pedestrians in the crosswalk as well as cyclists traversing the intersection. If the curbs were extended further into the intersection to shorten the distance pedestrians must travel to cross it, it would slow down turning cars by forcing them to make a tighter turn. This would help pedestrians as well as cyclists at this location. |

Mt. Vernon Ave and Four Mile Road | Pedestrian, Cyclist |
I was crossing Mt. Vernon Ave in the crosswalk heading west on my bike when a driver rolled through the red light (never stopping) to turn right from Mt. Vernon Ave onto Four Mile Road, coming within inches of hitting me, and another pedestrian who was crossing going the opposite way. The driver continued going and sped away after we screamed to alert him that he was about to hit us. Note–I’ve had numerous near misses at this intersection from drivers turning right on red without stopping first to check the crosswalk, this is just the most recent. |

Potomac Greens Drive and Slater’s Lane | Speeding, Failure to yield to pedestrians, Cyclist behavior |
The intersection is right where Buzz Bakery is on one side and Rustico Restaurant on the other corner. People consistently double park on PGD to “run in” to the various stores. Also the entrances to the two parking lots on each side of the street for the shopping centers face each other. When people can’t find parking in one, They “speed” to the other. Typically drivers don’t really bother to look as the jettison across PGD. With the cars double parked, there is less visibility of pedestrians. There is also a capitol bike share there. Bike riders are riding on the sidewalk, ALWAYS….because the cars are a mess, double parked and not parked in legal spots. This also includes metro/WMATA vehicles that I have pictures of. |

N. Fairfax & Madison Sts. | Cyclist |
I was stopped at the stop sign with my right turn signal on. About to turn right, a cyclist zoomed between my car and a parked car on my right, totally ignoring the stop sign. There is no bike lane there, so the cyclist should’ve been behind me. I blew my horn as he raced by and he totally ignored it. My swift reaction averted an accident. |

Cameron Street at Washington Street and at N. Columbus St. | Speeding, Failure to yield to pedestrians, Red light running |
The bike lanes going westbound end right at Washington forcing cyclists to mix with drivers turning right and going straight, which is dangerous because of driver aggression and the frequent back-ups there. Between Washington and Columbus there is a sharrow, but because drivers act so aggressively on this stretch, it is not safe to ride on the street. The S-turn at N. Columbus is unsafe because drivers turn into and usually block the bike lane that reappears after the light. |

I was walking on Duke with a double stroller and almost got hit by an SUV taking a quick left during rush hour. There are several daycares/preschool on Duke and many walkers. Mill Rd and Eisenhower Ave, Alexandria, VA | Pedestrian, Driver |
Crossing Eisenhower while holding the hands of my two kids (4 and 6). The light changed for us to cross, the driver made a right turn without looking. I don’t like the intersection, everyone is in a hurry as they get of the beltway. I usually take my kids up a block, but there is a much longer wait time at the light (seems larger intersections tend to change more often), and this morning I chose not to. |

N. Pickett and Beatley Library exit | Driver |
Was driving towards Beatley Bridge on Pickett and a driver swung out of the Beatley Library driveway having looked, but not seen, my approaching vehicle. She exited left into the street seemingly unaware of my car, and missed me by about 10 inches. There are often large vans/shuttle buses parked in that area, which could obscure a driver’s ability to see oncoming traffic. |
November 27, 2018 at 1:40 pm |
Commonwealth and Luray Avenues | Poor visibility, Speeding, Failure to yield to pedestrians |
Very bad lines of sight cause drivers on Luray to have to pull out on to Commonwealth to see. Drivers on Commonwealth routinely speed, especially if they see that the light at Braddock has turned green. Numerous fender benders here and many near misses (I can hear the screeching of brakes and crunching of cars from my house). I report each one I hear but no effort has been made by the City to make this intersection safer. Additionally, drivers ignore pedestrians in the new zebra cross walk at this intersection. Several times I have been in the intersection with cars stopped in one direction while drives on the other side pass right in front of me. |

Cameron and Peyton | Pedestrian |
I also witnessed a pedestrian struck by a car in this intersection on Nov 2. Drivers treat Cameron as a thorough-fare with most rolling through stop signs and exceeding the speed limit. Police presence is zero. Hope your organization can make a difference! |

Duke and North Quaker Lane | Red light running |
Drivers are continually running the red light in the slip lane from Duke St. going west to North Quaker lane. I don’t cross here every day, maybe twice a week. In the past year, approximately one-third of the time (I counted), a driver ran the red light (actually there are three red lights facing this one lane) while I was crossing. Another one did it yesterday evening. I don’t think we need “education” here. I think we need a physical barrier like a railroad crossing gate that drivers will think twice about before crashing through it. |

Montrose Ave & Wesmond Dr, Montrose Ave & Evans Lane | Poor visibility, Speeding, Failure to yield to pedestrians |
Our neighborhood has repeatedly asked the city for stop signs and crosswalks to mitigate cars speeding through Montrose as a cut through from Rt 1 to Glebe. Montrose and Glebe | Poor visibility, Speeding, Failure to yield to pedestrians |
This intersection is AWFUL. Only 3 of the 5 entrances into the intersection have to stop. Of these, one cannot see cross traffic from the right. Drivers frequently speed on Glebe road, and they routinely fail to yield to pedestrians. On Monday evening, some woman waved her cell phone at me, as if it was a valid excuse not to stop for me (I had already waited for about 2 minutes while at least 15 other drivers failed to yield). It was broad daylight, and I had a dog and a stroller with me, so it’s not like I couldn’t be seen. My neighborhood discusses this frequently on our listserv, and the city has so far been deaf to multiple years of requests for a 5-way stop sign there. One of my neighbors works from home and reports hearing at least 3 near-misses per day and has heard multiple accidents. |

Montrose and Jefferson Davis Highway | Jaywalking, Poor visibility, Speeding, Failure to yield to pedestrians |
Parked cars on Montrose create terrible sight lines for vehicles entering/exiting Montrose. That curve on Montrose should prohibit parking on at least one – if not both sides of the street for safety. Yes, I understand that parking is a premium; however, safety should always be our first consideration. |

Daily I have a near miss at this intersection. It’s difficult because it is an off-center intersection by typically it is cars on Commonwealth that think they have stopped because the car in front of them stopped OR they do not allow enough time for cars on Del Ray to safely pass through the intersection. |

Menokin Dr. and King Street | Failure to yield to pedestrians, Red light running |
I appreciate the work that has gone into this intersection, but motorists routinely turn right on red off of King onto Menokin, endangering me in the crosswalk. Additionally, the crosswalk on Menokin and Van Dorn a few feet up is always blocked by cars that don’t stop at the lights. It’s super unsafe given the amount of foot traffic and two preschools that are right there! |

Driver description: White male, early-to-mid 50s. Beige golf cap, salt-and-pepper beard. Driving a dark Audi convertible. License plate unknown. Driver blew through not 1, but 2 stop signs (Van Valkenburgh and then Leslie) within a matter of seconds. He did not pause a sufficient amount of time at either stop in order to establish that the path was safe for him to proceed. In fact, he sped up through his stops. We stopped dead in our tracks, in the middle of the road, to avoid being struck as it was clear he had no intention of slowing down. My SO said “Nice stop” very audibly and he yelled back “Where’s YOUR sidewalk?!” |

N. Pitt and Montgomery Street | Pedestrian |
I was half way through the cross walk when a driver did a rolling slow down at the stop sign across the street, directly opposite me. the driver kept coming directly at me and waved their hand for me to get out of the way. The driver never stopped, just kept moving forward. I side stepped the car and slapped the back side of the car to let her hear the sound of hitting someone. The driver just kept on going and blew through the next stop sign on Madison and N Pitt. The cross walk at the intersection of Montgomery and N. Pitt needs to be repainted b/c it is fading but it is heard not to see a person walking at the corner across the cross walk at 6 pm, still plenty of day light. |

Duke and Reinekers Lane | Pedestrian |
At the crosswalk in front of Whole Foods, someone went through the red light while I had the walk signal. As I know this intersection well and how dangerous it is, I did not immediately step out to cross because I could see the white van barrelling east on Duke was not going to stop. This happens all the time at this intersection. Vehicles get confused with the next signal on Holland Lane being green but the light at Reinkers Lane is red so pedestrians can cross. |

I was riding south on the Mt. Vernon Trail parallel to S. Perhaps the Bridgeyard management company should be asked to inform their residents to be mindful and avoid traffic lights and rules of the road when enterring and exiting their complex. |

On a regular basis, in afternoons and evenings, crossing North-South on s. Washington along the west side of the street, cars turning right or left onto Gibbon from S. Driver came north on Mt Vernon and turned right into Commonwealth and honked at us, right as we stepped off the curb into the crosswalk, when we had the walk signal. |

Monroe and Main Line Blvd | Pedestrian |
The older two girls were at camps this morning so I took the younger two on a jog on the Potomac Yards trails. To get back to our car I had to cross the street which was under an overpass (Monroe and Main Line Blvd). I got the walk signal and quickly checked the left turn cars would wait for me. There was a big SUV edging out but she was going slow. I crossed the street but quickly and frantically realized she did not see me or the double stroller with two tiny kids in it. She was coming at me and fast. I was trying to get out of her way as she kept turning right into me, I was screaming for her to see me and swerve. I reach out to touch the car and she finally saw me and swerved. I got to the other side of the street and practically collapsed onto that sidewalk in tears. I couldn’t help it, my entire body was shaking. Another car stopped and asked if I was OK and I told her I was just scared. The woman in the SUV pulled around and got out. She hugged me and cried too. We were both sobbing. She kept apologizing and asked for my forgiveness. I told her of course and thanked her for stopping. That’s a tricky spot because it is dark under the overpass. I usually make eye contact with drivers before I proceed to make sure they see me. I thought she saw me because she started edging out slowly, but apparently that had nothing to do with me. Maybe in an area where so many people exercise (and kids play soccer) we should give the crossing pedestrians a few minutes walk time with no traffic. Honestly, 5 seconds more and I would have been hit. I got home and prayed a prayer of gratitude for my safety. Please look into this area so this doesn’t happen again to anyone. Thank you! |

East reed and Evan lane | Pedestrian |
The stretch of east reed between route 1 and commonwealth has NO NO traffic calming or pedestrian investments. Cars and busses speed down it. |
