When: 10am Sunday, November 16th
Where: Gateway Park in Arlington

NoVA FSS is hosting a Northern Virginia World Day of Remembrance (WDoR) for Road Traffic Victims event on Sunday November 16th to…
- Honor the lives of the 24 pedestrians killed by people driving in Northern Virginia in 2024 and the 13 pedestrian fatalities YTD 2025;
- Raise awareness of the impact traffic violence has on our community;
- Call our elected leaders and transportation agencies to action to prevent the avoidable deaths and serious injuries resulting from traffic violence.
NoVA FSS members, which include family members who have lost a loved one, crash survivors and many concerned citizens, will be joined by, among others, policy makers such as Arlington Board Chair Takis Karantonis, Delegate Partick Hope, Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire, a senior VDOT representative, and a severely injured crash survivor.
We invite the community to help us:
- Call attention to the issue of traffic pedestrian and vulnerable road user fatalities and serious injuries.
- Elevate the voices of those who have been most impacted by traffic crashes.
- Advocate for traffic regulations that will promote safer streets on our roads, such as broadening the authority to install Speed Safety Cameras on high-crash network roads.
- Promote the Vision Zero goal of eliminating all traffic fatalities and serious injuries in all three Northern Virginia jurisdictions of Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax.
The event at Gateway Park will conclude early enough so that those interested can meet up with members of other DMV Families for Safe Streets Chapters for a WDoR rally at the Lincoln Memorial at 12pm and call on our region’s leaders to #StopSuperSpeeders. After the rally at Gateway Park concludes, you can metro to Foggy Bottom to meet with FSS chapter members from D.C. and Maryland and then collectively march to the Lincoln Memorial. Or, you can join with others who will bike to the Lincoln Memorial for the WDoR rally.
