Remembering Lives Lost. Working toward safer streets.
Each year, the World Day of Remembrance brings communities together to honor those who have lost their lives or were seriously injured in traffic crashes and to support the families and communities left behind.
Since last year’s observance, 30 people have been killed on Northern Virginia streets while walking, biking, or rolling. Behind every number is a person whose life mattered, a family grieving a profound loss, and a community changed forever.
Since 2017, NoVA FSS and its chapters in Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax have held local WDoR events to remember those we’ve lost, hear from the people whose lives have been forever changed, and renew our commitment to preventing future tragedies.
From remembrance to action.
This year’s U.S. theme, Invest in Safety, Not Speed, is a call to action. We know that proven solutions can make our streets safer, including smarter street design, safer speed limits, speed safety cameras, and stop sign cameras in school zones.
Our program will feature stories from those who have experienced road traffic violence, as well as elected leaders, law enforcement officials, and school board members reflecting on how we can do better.
WDoR is an opportunity to pause, remember, and consider what each of us—and our community—can do to make it safer for everyone to get around, whether walking, biking, rolling, or driving.
Your presence matters. By attending, you’ll join others in honoring those we’ve lost and showing our elected decision-makers that our community supports meaningful investments in road safety.
Please join us.
